Sekira (or Kira for short) is a Sarplaninac Shepherd born from a breeding pair imported from Macedonia. Embark genetic testing wasn’t a concern because we know exactly where she came from. Part of our breeding program, Sekira’s lineage is from working lines straight off the mountain, not a kennel. She was bonded to sheep before she arrived here at Cross Creek, however since being here has included all of our other animals into her charge. From goat to horse, cow to sheep, she will make it her mission to protect them all. It’s normally Sekira I hear first whenever something is up, she has eyes on everything. She has been health checked and PinHIPP checked without issues.
Sekira’s temperament is very aloof, and you should consider yourself lucky if she comes up to greet you. However, the Sarplaninac is very bonded to family along with the livestock and will be at my hip while doing chores. Hailed as a sticky livestock guardian, she equally shares her attention to her owner, picking one to be her very best friend. She is difficult to contain, climbing 6-foot fences to make sure ever animal knows its protected, however always returns to her sheep after completing the rounds. No livestock have been lost with her on the job. She has been through two birthing seasons without issue.
