Kolya is a Sarplaninac Shepherd born on the Sar Mountains in Macedonia. We imported him to be the breeding sire for Sekira. Embark genetic testing isn’t a concern because we know exactly where he came from. With only working lines in these mountains, his instincts have been superb from the beginning. He was bonded to sheep, goats, cattle and horse while still in the old country and since his arrival here at Cross Creek, we’ve seen the benefits of his upbringing and have included chickens. Kolya moves easy from animal to animal and even spends time in the chicken coop; much like Sekira, it’s his mission to protect them all. Kolya is still a puppy and has a long road ahead of him, but he has Sekira and Titan to guide him along. He has been health checked and PinHIPP checked.
Kolya’s temperament is also aloof, and he will normally bark and back way to the sheep as you approach. But his puppy temperament will bring him back for attention. The Sarplaninac is very bonded to family along with the livestock. Hailed as a sticky livestock guardian, they will equally share attention to the owner, picking one to be there very best friend. When we are looking for Kolya, he normally can be found lying in front of the barn guarding the sheep, just like the picture. We have been working with Kolya through his first lambing season, and he has shown great instincts.
